Quick Update

Yeah, I just couldn't do it.  I tried so hard to stay focused on Warhammer Fantasy, but with knowing the world is dead, so is my focus on it.  I will work on the models as I can but very likely they will sit in a box for a while before the pain subsides... its still just too soon.

That said with Warhammer 40k's 8th edition release a ton of people I know are either getting into it for the first time or getting back into it.
So I decided I would get back into it as well.

I will post some Ork stuff soon.  :)

Thanks again for your time.

Vampire Counts Army Project - Pt:2 Dire Wolves

Edna was angry, she was angry at her papa for scolding her infront of Sven. She was angry at her mother for not standing up for her, and she was angry at Sven for running home like a mut with his tail between his legs when her father had found them out by the barn. After the embarrassing encounter with her family she ran.  She started heading towards the shack by the lake. She knew no one had claimed ownership of it in several seasons and she would often go there during the summer just to unwind and get out of doing her chores. She could still hear her family yelling her name, it was just after dusk and she didn't have a lantern with her.  She knew the route well enough she thought.  After close to an hour of travel she started to have her doubts. The trail continued through the forest but she wasn't seeing any of the land marks or fields that told her of her destination. A slight breeze passed through the trees and on it came a smell of rotten meat. She started to turn around, and admit that maybe she will deal with her family's scolding over the darkness when she heard it. The growling of a dog. She picked up a fallen branch that was just off the trail and started to slowly walk back the way she came. The clouds which up to this point had kept the night dark started to thin allowing silver beams of light to give her a better view of the animal which had startled her.  Her heart pounding in her chest she looked back only to see nothing there was no dog, she was about to tell herself that she needs to stop letting the darkness get to her when the rotting smell blew past her again, this time it was almost overwhelming.  She took a few steps backwards and that's when she bumped into something.  It was those last few moments when she saw the glowing green flame in the eye sockets that used to hold the cunning eyes of a predator that Edna wished she had simply stayed home.

Across the lands of the Old World giant wolves roam the country side, these beasts almost as large as horses  prey on travelers and small farming villages. While large hunting parties are put together to destroy these beasts, the dark magic near Sylvania allows for no soul to rest for long before they dig themselves out of the pits the hunters bury them in. As they did in life, these newly risen Dire Wolves find the strongest beast to which will lead them, often being a Vampire.
In times of battle Vampires command these monstrosities to run around the enemy's flanks to harass their artillery or find a weak flank to clash into.

Now that you have a little bit of an idea on what exactly Dire Wolves are in Warhammer, here is the set of models I have been working on for my army.

This was the unit, and where it was in completion when I started this project.
No basing beyond the stones, many portions of the wolves were not completely painted. ( I in general work on the 3 foot rule so often it if looks good far away I stop working on them. )

Since then I have put a few more coats of paint on these beasts, finished with the basing and even added some leaves which I have picked up to help add that "little extra" to my VC army.

Though its not much to tell from the images above I never said I was going to be completely re-doing these units.  I just wanted to polish them a little more.

I think it turned out rather acceptable.

Let me know what you think, and thanks again for visiting.

Vampire Counts Army Project - Pt:1

Velcome back to my blog!  I vant to paint my vinatures!

That was terrible, I should be beaten for that.   As you can tell based on the title of this post, I'm aiming to finish my Vampire Counts army.

When I first started into the hobby I was pulled in with Warhammer 40k, but then the sleek looking skeleton models cam out from GW, and I fell in love with the Vampire Counts.  I have always enjoyed the myths that comes with vampires and werewolves. None of that  "sparkly" bullshit, but the kind that honestly hunted you for sport and fed on your fear as well as your life. So as they continued to build the range of models it continued to grab my interest.

It was when I picked up the starter box, and my friend picked up the dwarf starter that my drive into fantasy really began. So it is fitting that I'm going to take steps to finish this army and officially call it "Done".  I though that I would never actually reach that point, but with GW destroying the world and game that I have grown to enjoy for all these years I see more and more of the armies getting canceled. When I say canceled, I mean literally no longer making models for them.  I wanted a box of Brettonian Men-At-Arms because the theme of my army was to be an undead Brettonian feel.  I can't find sprues for Brettonians to save my life.   I have a box of Brett Knights and checking ebay they are going for $100 already.  I swear on I saw a website trying to sell 5 grail nights for $400.

I guess its true, its worth more when you can't get it anymore.
Thankfully my undead seem to be safe for now.  Though I need to finish my Dwarf army asap...

On to the stuff!

Here you can see the planned pile of things.  Last night I spent time taking each model out of my foam cases, and sorted them into groups that I can start to work on.

Skeleton's need to be finished, and based for the most part.
Worgs need to be based but are done.
Zombies need to be touched up and based
Ghouls need to be finished getting put together, based, primed and painted.
Corpse Cart needs to be based and detailed.
and the list goes on...

What I'm going to do is treat my blog as my own little check list of completion and also provide some fun information on the units and history of what they have done.

I will post updates and images of what I have gotten done, and then move to the next unit till everything is finalized.

I have some fun ideas, but I'm always open to suggestions so as we go through these posts please feel free to give me any ideas you can!

Thanks for taking time to read my blog.

All the things, seriously i want to do all the things.

Like normal, the spring, summer and fall months find me doing things that are over all a little more focused with the family and friends. Now that Winter has fully come into full swing, I want to start working on this aspect of my free time a little more.

Mmmm Stock google images for summer actives...

That said I figured I would post a basic update on what I HAVE been up to, what I want to start working on before the end of the first quarter of next year ( I figured I would give myself a good number of  months to work on things slowly.

Firstly I have a German Bolt Action army that I have been so lazily building for over a year.  Like I haven't even gotten the infantry together yet.  I just have a hard time putting them together.  I think over the years I would rather not have the tiniest guns in the smallest hands to glue together
Mmmm Stock cover photo

In looking at the Warlords website I totally got sucked into Black Powder, and Hail Caesar.  I picked up the box for the French Napoleonic army.  While its on my shelf, I haven't even started to monkey around with it.
You can almost hear it cry to be used!

I did have a single box of Roman infantry, so figured I would put them together.
So this is what I got done so far.
Very simple paint job, just to get some color on it

Beyond that and putting some Tanks together for Bolt action all my time has been consumed with Star Wars: Armada, and X-Wing.  After that I got Fallout 4 and World of Warships for my PC (Hence my desire to try and get more focus on the table top stuff. )
My Imperial Fleet got an unexpected hyper-space rear flank.  The next turn we took out the corvette.  Was a fun game over all.

I will be working on getting smaller projects done, so hopefully I will get some more updates soon.

Thanks for reading!

Firestorm Armada: Dindrenzi starter fleet. (Pt 1)

Today's post is about another long forgotten game that has been in my collection. Firestorm Armada.

About 3 years ago I had picked up a starter box for both Firestorm Armada, and Dystopian Wars, I picked them up when my friend Drake and I were on a "gotta get every game ever" tangent. (That happens often)

So not sure which one he was more interested in I picked up both because I figured, why not?  Everything I needed in one box, and when he gets around to it we can play.  Sadly he never fell in line with either game, but no worries though they get added to my collection and I get something to work on when I have free... er.. time.  Ha, cuz that happens.

So our friends over at The Game Store have started to create some buzz about the game, I watched a demo game in-between getting my Star Trek Attack Wing league game in for the month and it seemed like everyone was having a blast.  So the itch started, I got home and looked around for the starter box that I had. Sure enough there she was, barely touched.

I put it on the workbench, an obvious sign that things would get worked on soon.
Yep, I'm sure it was literally the next thing in line...
Two weeks later I ended up back at The Game Store for another ST:AW tournament they were hosting and once again it was mentioned in passing by other people chatting away. (That tournament had some time to waste)  So again, more pressure on my mind about it.

So finally Adam, the general manager over at The Game Store created a facebook group for it and once again I find myself split between like 6 games.
Over the course of several days I got the ships assembled.

I'm not going to lie, I think that the big one is simply Megatron in gun form.
Then I promptly put them back in their box.  This wasn't my primary objective, I had actually written out a whole extension to this post on how I painted them and dry brushed them.  Just waiting for me to do it and take a picture.  Never got to that.  A few days later I had spoken to  Adam at TGS  and he convinced me to pick up the brand new Battle for Valhalla box set, sans the Terran faction. So of course that happened.

So now I have basically the same ships only they are new ships and more details models. I can already tell that my older ships are going to be regulated to flanking attacks or suicide runs. I'm a model elitist at heart and if one model looks better than another, the one that doesn't look as good will be considered 2nd class.

I plan to get to putting the new ones together in the next few months. In the mean time all of them are still sitting in their fancy box on the shelf with 40+ other boxes of stuff that still need to get put together.

Yay having vices!

I'm going to work on Pt 2 when I can break out the new starter models and really give them the attention they deserve

Wait.. what just happened?

So its January of 2015...  Did you get July's Hobby challenge completed?

Hell, I didn't even get it done.  So what should our hobby goals be this year?  Yes you loyal reader who has been sticking by my blog for months, help me figure out goal for this year as my motivation for the hobby in general has been lacking.

I would like to once again change that, get creative again and post the results of my mediocre painting and hobby talents.

Where have I been the last few months you ask?  Well, no there.  I simply got sucked back into World of Warcraft.  Yeah, that happens from time to time.

I know this is like 3 expansions back... still the best one though.
"So since July you have been playing WoW?"
Well not totally, but a lot of it.

Also been getting in a good amount of World of Tanks. Very fun game, with a learning curve.  Can't just run out and shoot things. Need to angle the armor, hull down, aim for the enemies weak spots. Deal with kids telling you how terrible you are, even though you are doing your job better than they are and stayed alive.

My wife is awesome and ordered the Star Trek: Attack Wing  Borg Cube for me.

This is the cube, Cube meet NCC-1701-D. I'm sure you two will have no resistance in being besties.

I'm currently also trying to digest the rumor mill about the upcoming Warhammer Fantasy 9th Ed, and how thats going to affect how I invest in all 6-7 armies I haven't completed.

Do I drop a few? Focus on the ones I really enjoyed?  Keep collecting knowing I can always just keep playing 8th (most likely) and treat 9th as a mostly different game?    Some of the rumors say that the older 8th edition books will still work, but will simply not be focused for the new game style even though the rules aren't changing that much.  We will see.

I will review that later.  Maybe. I might also have ice cream after dinner tonight.  Maybe.

Most likely not.

As always thanks for taking time out of your life to read my ranting.  I promise I will do more when I can. :)   Any questions, suggestions, complaints, or just want to talk email me!

July Hobby Challenge

First few days of July and oh the joy of another month of painting models and showing off some sweet sweet skills.  At the end of this month you are going to see some of the most magical paint jobs your internet-addled mind could imagine!

Lets be honest, with a blog called Badly Painted Minis you should be expecting much from me....  Which is EXACTLY why I ask my skilled painter friends to submit their work as well. So you don't need to deal with just my stuff and can actually be Inspired!

As always the rules are simple.

1) Put something together or Paint something
2) Take a picture
3) Email it to me with your Name ( Click Here )

Bonus fun for anyone looking for a challenge
+  Being the 4th of July, incorporate Red, White, and Blue. Into your paint job.
+ Incorporate Freedom into your modeling / Paint Job
+ 'Murcia

If you think that it isn't really possible to do this I think you need to put some more Freedom Flakes into your breakfast because it has been done in some really awesome ways.

Such as this Ork  (Source)

Its all in your story, and how you want to apply it.  'Murica.

Or even my own Federated States ships.

As always have fun, these challenges are just to get you to sit down and make progress on that HUGE collection of models you have that you have been slacking on painting.
